267 Youth and Church Members impact Brevard County Flood victims with Love in Action!
The Melbourne Seventh day Adventist gymnasium and adjoining ACTS Circus Tent is a registered distribution site with the State and local Emergency Operations Center. 175 neighbors came on Saturday and Sunday to receive urgently needed clean up kits, tarps and personal hygiene kits. Pastor Wayne Gosling says: “It’s sad it takes a storm to unite our Church members and board to serving our community. We have never had such opportunity to let our community see love in action from our Church. I can walk right into the front doors of homes and instantly bond with neighbors in terrible need. We found entire communities which had been under 4 feet of water with individuals frantically waving us down who said we were the first to come and help. We would have done nothing if it were not for the vision and plan of ACTS to be the hands and feet of Jesus and the honor to work with local and State leaders.” Members from the Church now serve at a requested seat given by the local EOC to fill the requested spot of Public Information Officer.
Forest Lake Academy, Heritage Academy from TN, local Boy Scouts and Statewide volunteers responded to requested work orders being processed through the distribution center. By Sunday night, 16 homes were stripped, roofs tarped, or soaked furniture removed. ACTS trucks unloaded cleaning kits, and supplies with their all-terrain fork lifts. The semi Kitchen is in place as well.
The Sate of Florida Emergency Management said: “Whatever you did to diplomatically develop a relationship with the local EOC is working, because they have prevented many other great faith-based organizations from assisting desperate communities which have been flooded”.
Don Samuels who is a member of the Melbourne SDA Church and the Chief Operations Officer for ACTS said: “It is so exciting to be a small part of meeting the needs of a hurting community”.
Mops, rakes, gloves, rubber boots and bleach and of course financial donations, are the greatest needs of this deployment of historic rainfall, totaling almost 30 inches. Supporters need to understand that ACTS can provide and multiply only what they are entrusted with. This deployment will last up to a month.
Please send Urgently needed donations to ACTS at 600 Citrus Ave. Ft. Pierce, FL 34950, or Melbourne SDA Church 210 W. New Haven Melbourne, FL 32901.
